When it’s Time to Replace Your Air Conditioner
In some ways, your Air Conditioning System is the heart of your home. It’s in charge of circulating air throughout the house and regulates your comfort levels. However, depending on how often it’s used, it may need replacing about every 15 years. Here are some signs to look for when assessing you system and considering replacement.
Frequency of repairs. If you have to have the unit serviced or repaired more than once in a single season, it may be time for a replacement. This could be an indicator of a systematic breakdown of the system and simply replacing parts won’t be able to reverse the damage that has already been done. This will lead to more frequent future breakdowns and will cost you more money than a replacement in the long run.
Excessive noise. This may seem fairly obvious, but it is a sign that is often ignored. If you notice that your AC system is making a new noise, it is wise to look into the cause. The problem may not call for a total replacement, but having a trusted technician check it out and give you their educated opinion is the smart thing to do.
Reduced Efficiency. If you notice that your system is not cooling as quickly or efficiently and you have followed a regular maintenance schedule, it could be a sign that it’s time for replacement. If your AC system is on it’s way out, it is wise to replace it right away. Although it is an investment, you will be saving money (and energy) in the long run.
