Higher pricing for R-22 has left many wondering if turning to a cheaper alternative to help keep their aging HVAC units running is the best idea to cut corners and save money- but is this really the best answer?

Unfortunately as prices for R-22 continue to rise as the EPA makes continual moves to more efficient coolant alternatives, HVAC owners are turning toward a dangerous trend of mixing cheaper fluids with it.
As far as the dangers of mixing cheaper chemicals go, many of the more affordable and accessible coolants contain either propane or butane, which can create a fire hazard or even explode if under the right conditions.
It is extremely dangerous to handle these chemicals, as well as illegal to add some of these main ingredients to your HVAC system.
