One of the newest ways to monitor your energy usage is through mobile apps that connect directly to your thermostat. There are also many apps that will monitor energy usage on appliances. These apps allow you to see how much energy is being used and adjust accordingly. You no longer have to wait to get your ridiculously expensive electricity bill to figure out you are using too much energy. You can now see you are using too much energy as it’s happening and adjust accordingly. Here are three smartphone apps to help you save money.

Nest Mobile

This app only works with the Nest Learning Thermostat, which is a great option for a thermostat. It allows you to adjust your thermostat directly from your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.   And, it doesn’t matter where you are. Let’s say you normally get home at 6pm, so you have your AC kick on at 5:30pm to cool your home off before you get home. If you decide to grab dinner and drinks with friends right after work, you can change the thermostat to not turn on until you expect to get home. It’s an easy way to save money at home without having to be there.

Green Outlet

Ever wondered how much energy your appliances are using? With Green Outlet, you can. It allows you to figure out which appliances in your home are using the most energy. Once you know this, you can adjust your appliance use or settings to conserve energy and save money.

Kill-Ur-Watts

Developed through the Department of Energy, Kill-Ur-Watts tracks your energy usage over time. Once enough data is collected, it gives you advice on how to save energy. With customizable graphs, it allows you to see your carbon footprint. Additionally, it will tell you your energy score, which you can share with friends, creating a friendly competition on who can use the least amount of energy.

It’s never been easier to figure out where you can save money on your energy bills. We hope you check out these apps or any of the other energy-saving apps available. If you have used any of them, we would love to hear your feedback! Comment below or on our Facebook page to let us know.
